Acoustic absorber requires micro structure to perform. The dimensions and diameters of fabers also play a crucial role, which are tricky to control and visualize at a large number.

With the help of parametric design and micro 3DP, the design discussion and fast prototype of acoustic fiber is becoming more and more intuitive. By using Grasshopper scripting, this short exercise has shown the potential application of parametric design for material studies.

Designing in a parametric method also provides opportunity to maximize form-finding and fast-iteration. The visualization and data management techniques around hair-like structure are also challenging the prototyping of such structures. OPT Industries Inc. is a MIT Start-up that focus on UV 3DP with parametric design, and has conducted in-depth study into this area.
